The story of Juliana Cole and the Boho Beat began back in 2008 when singer/songwriter Juliana Cole and Producer Paul Buono met while Juliana was looking to put together a new live band for her solo career. Paul was the first member on board and their friendship and musical chemistry blossomed from there.

It wasn't long before Paul and Juliana started collaborating and creating a new sound altogether…one that was strongly driven by Juliana’s natural knack for songs and melodies that were extremely film, television and ad friendly. After all, you don’t have songs placed in shows for NBC, ABC, FOX, HBO, The CW and LIFETIME without this kind of natural leaning. This direction was further solidified after her songs and unique vocal styling’s caught the ear of Craig Currier, Sr. Creative Director at peermusic. Craig who is well known for his knack of finding writers and artists whose songs and sound translate well to the sync world has placed music in hundreds of major commercials over the years in his role at peermusic.

For the next six months, Juliana & Paul began writing songs focused on simple and often quirky lyrics while keeping the production vibe to a bare minimum. Adding to the intrigue of the recording process, they incorporated both organic and off-beat instrumentation combinations to add an authentic and unique feel to their songs such as dobro, mandolin, mellotron, omni chord and glockenspiel; not to mention the clever use of Juliana’s evocative and haunting voice in various ways. Keeping their new formula in mind, they were able to develop an inviting and identifiable sound. This is the new sound of Juliana Cole and the Boho Beat.

In addition to her Film & TV placements – which also include placements for TNT, MTV, VH1, The WB, UPN, and ABC Family, Juliana’s had dozens of songs cut by major label recording artists, is the recipient of two prestigious ASCAP songwriter awards including the #1 title “That’s When I Love You”.  Juliana also co-wrote “Live For Today” for the #1 rated morning show, NBC’s Today Show, which was nominated for an Emmy!

Juliana was also the voice of a national JCPENNEY campaign, featuring “It’s A Charmed Life” and co-wrote “Words Are Your Wheels” for Walmart’s National Literacy campaign. Her song “Unbroken” was performed by American Idol Finalist, Jessica Sierra for a Sony/Toys R’ Us national campaign.

Originally from Boston, MA where he attended Berklee College of Music, Paul now resides in Music City aka Nashville, TN where he has produced well over 100 independent records as well as writing/co-writing over 250 published songs. In 2010 he co-wrote and produced “Anything Is Possible” for the hit TV show The Biggest Loser. Paul also wrote and produced several songs placed in daytime television soap operas such as All My Children and Days of Our Lives and in 2011 he co-wrote “Pull Me Up” which was part of the award winning film and soundtrack for When Harry Tries To Marry.

The first release of Juliana Cole and the Boho Beat is close to wrapping up and is due to be released in late  2011/early 2012 – and sure to be quickly tickling the ears of music supers and ad creatives around the globe.

Juliana Cole is hard at work in the studio with her friend and co-producer Paul Buono re-recording a song made popular by Bjork in the 90’s! She and Paul were asked by Craig Currier (Sr. Creative Director of Ad Markets Peermusic- US) to do an original version off this song, which is owned by Peer.

Juliana says: "It has been a blast working on this tune with Paul! We hope the fans like our less is more quirky approach! Craig wanted it to have an edgy acoustic feel with eclectic instrumentation and unique background vocals. Instead of the big horn sections, we used my voice and various instruments to bring this tune to life in a different way. Gratefully, my background as a theatre major made the 'theatrical' lyric and emotional tempo changes fun for me to sing! Paul and I both LOVED the Betty Hutton version! It is mind-blowing to listen to her belt this tune with such an authentic flare! It has been a wonderful experience. Thanks Craig for entrusting us with this incredible tune."

Some history behind the song...

"It's Oh So Quiet" performed by Björk is a renamed cover of the Betty Hutton song "Blow a Fuse".[1][2] This version, in turn, was a cover of the Austrian song Und jetzt ist es still, performed by Horst Winter in 1948, written by Austrian composer Hans Lang and Erich Meder.[3]

As for Björk, this song remains her biggest hit, reaching #4 in the UK and spending 15 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, generating plenty of mainstream airplay. Fuelled by the Spike Jonze-directed music video clip, the single also shot Björk into the spotlight in Australia, where it reached #6. In the United Kingdom the single has been certified as Gold, having sold upwards of 400,000 copies. [1] The song still receives a considerable amount of airplay on stations all throughout the UK in the weeks leading up to Christmas, despite the fact it's not a Christmas song. This may be due to the fact the song was released and peaked during the Christmas season in 1995.

Juliana Cole co-wrote "Gone By Dawn" which will be released on Phil Vassar's newest album on Rodeowave Entertainment.

Juliana Cole's music will be featured in the nD (in-dee) Festival at the historical Belcourt Theater in Nashville, September 22-26th. Sunday night's fashion show will feature local designers such as Billy Reid and Imogene + Willy!

The art displayed that evening will be diverse but mainly focusing on Katie's latest work, inspired by her daughter. Obviously, we are both young, single moms pursuing artistic goals, so the venture seemed divinely appropriate. Although the lyrics and overall personality of my album isn't focused on motherhood in the slightest, I do have several acoustic driven lullabies that I have recorded, inspired solely by the beautiful spirits of the little ones in my life.

Being a mother and a singer-songwriter performer is challenging at times, yet; it is the greatest honor and privilege I have in this life. From an artistic standpoint, it has changed me and given me the ability to write from a deeper point of view.

I have come to believe that if I am not pursuing my dreams, I am not authentically representing my "true self" to my children. I am so grateful to share a part of myself through music in hopes that, one-day, they will find and live out their true passion.
